Man accused of throwing baby daughter off the Driscoll Bridge

Police will examine 4-hour period without Amber Alert after East Orange baby abduction.

The girl’s father, Shamsid-Din Abdur-Raheem, today pleaded not guilty in Superior Court in Newark to charges of kidnapping his daughter, Zara Malini-Lin Abdur, from her grandmother in East Orange on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities said Abdur-Raheem, 21, went to the apartment of the grandmother, Leno Benjamin, punched and choked the woman, then grabbed his daughter and ran to a mini van.

Abdur-Raheem then drove south and allegedly stopped at the Driscoll Bridge around rush hour and threw the baby off the bridge.
